Understand the recovery responsibility
A self-custody wallet gives the holder responsibility for its recovery material. A recovery QR code is not an ordinary login shortcut: anyone who can use it may be able to restore the wallet and control the assets.
Create the wallet carefully
Open the wallet from a verified app, review the custody and recovery notices, and follow the current creation flow shown for your account. Do not continue if another person is watching your screen or remotely controlling the device.
Keep the QR backup offline
Do not send the recovery QR code through chat or email, print it on a shared device, or leave it in a cloud-synchronised photo library. Store an offline copy in a private location and avoid scanning unknown QR codes presented as wallet recovery tools.
Test before holding meaningful assets
Confirm that you understand the recovery steps before moving a meaningful balance. A separate empty wallet or very small test amount can help you check the process without putting important funds at risk.
